The Plot: "Terminal Velocity, Checkpoint: The Quick and the Dead"

Wally West is faster than he has ever been, but it comes with a terrifying price.

• The Vision of Death: Wally has seen a future where he vanishes while saving Linda Park. To prevent this, he begins pushing his powers to the limit, but every time he does, he edges closer to becoming pure energy.
• The Return of Jesse Quick: This issue heavily features Jesse Quick. Wally starts "training" her to be his successor, but his motives are secretive and cold, causing friction between them.
• The Kobra Threat: The villainous organization Kobra begins its grand plan to level Keystone City. This provides the external pressure that forces Wally to use the very speed that is threatening to consume him.
• The Introduction of the "Speed Force" Name: While the concept was hinted at in #0, this arc is where the term "Speed Force" truly becomes the central pillar of Flash mythology.
