Iron Fist #1 (1975)
"A Duel of Iron!"
The story picks up with Danny Rand in New York, still struggling to reconcile his life as a wealthy heir with his duty as the Living Weapon. The issue opens with a breathtaking sequence of Iron Fist infiltrating a high-security skyscraper to find Colleen Wing, who has been kidnapped. He faces off against the deadly Iron Man(in a classic misunderstanding/hero-vs-hero trope) before the real villains are revealed.
Issue Highlights:
- Solo Title Launch: After appearing in 10 issues of Marvel Premiere , this was the official proof that the "Martial Arts Craze" had staying power at Marvel.
- The Claremont/Byrne Partnership: While issue #2 is often cited as the start of their long-term chemistry, issue #1 features the same powerhouse team (with Arvell Jones providing some initial pencils and Byrne taking over the layouts/finishes). It established the "Iron Fist aesthetic" that would last for decades.
- Iron Man Crossover: The guest appearance of Tony Stark served as a "seal of approval," firmly cementing this mystical newcomer into the heavy-hitting Marvel roster.
- High Market Demand: This is a major Bronze Age key. It is consistently one of the most sought-after books from 1975, especially in high grades where the dark cover inks are prone to showing wear.
